Have you ever been told at the last minute that you have to pack up and move by the end of the weekend coming? If so, do you know how to pack up all of your household items in two or three days?
By way of answering these questions, let’s consider the following tips to help you pack all your possessions ready for moving over a weekend.
1. Don’t panic
As highlighted by the company, Prime Texas Movers, one of the worst things to do is to panic. It is critical to remain calm in order to think things through and plan your move.
The article titled, “What happens in the brain when we experience a panic attack,” describes impact of panic and anxiety on the human brain.
In summary, when you panic, you’ll notice your breathing become heavy, your hands tremble, and you might feel faint. While these symptoms are not life-threatening, they do have the ability to inhibit your ability for logical thought. Your nervous system releases corticosteroids like adrenaline, the flight or fight hormone, resulting in the need to run away from the challenge of a last-minute move.
2. Make a list
Once you have calmed down, the next step is to make a list of everything that must be completed by the end of the weekend. Walk from room to room, making a checklist of everything that must be packed. Leave each checklist in its corresponding room so that when you start packing up the room, you can just check the items off the list once they are packed.
3. Do not pack broken or unwanted items
The cost of a move is based on the cubic foot volume of all your possessions packed in the removals truck. Therefore, the more you pack, the greater the cost of the move. Thus, don’t pack what you don’t need or want. Separate your possessions into three categories: donate, throw out or recycle, and pack. This will reduce both the time taken to pack up your home as well as the cost of moving.
4. Source the correct packing materials at the start of the weekend
Once you know what must be packed, the next step is to purchase enough boxes, packing tape, permanent markers, and protective wrappings like newsprint paper and bubble wrap. You can then start packing and utilizing your time as efficiently as possible without having to pop out to the shops to purchase more packing materials.
5. Do not overpack boxes
Packing boxes come in different sizes and shapes, fit for purpose, as it were. For instance, book boxes are the smallest of all boxes. Each box is 1.5 cubic feet and measures 17’’x12 3/8’’x 12 3/8”. Books are heavy; therefore, it is important not to pack your books in a bigger box. Not only will the box’s weight be too heavy for the average person to pick up, but the box’s construction is not designed to hold this weight, increasing the risk of the box breaking while in transit.
