James Lamont DuBose has inspired, educated, and uplifted black communities with his innovative vision. Now, he’s also hoping to help them find a voice in entertainment.

Debuting in early 2020, Fox Soul is a digital television network targeted specifically to African Americans. Using the motto “Our Voice, Our Truth”, the groundbreaking streaming service features both original and syndicated programs. Shows run four hours each day, mixing original content with existing programs from affiliated stations in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and other urban markets. Head of Programming James Lamont DuBose promises in-depth and unfiltered discussion of politics, faith, pop culture, and even personal advice. The free, ad-supported channel aspires to celebrate black culture and highlight real topics within African American audiences.

Fox Soul is genre-defining for its parent company. In an era where every network has its own streaming service, Fox Soul is the first-ever online streaming service launched by the Fox Corporation. But, in a lot of ways, Fox Soul also represents the company returning to its roots. Fox has a long history of reaching black viewers, dating back to the 1990s. As Fox begins to build its digital platform, it’s looking to capitalize on this demographic yet again.

James Lamont DuBose, who is also an Executive Producer, is helping to provide a programming schedule that finds African American viewers in new ways. Although the channel is loaded with talent, Fox Soul is headlined by Tammi Mac. The long-time, top-rated Los Angeles radio personality has been with the station from the start, hosting its late show each night. Model-actress Claudia Jordan hosts her own show. “Out Loud with Claudia Jordan” follows the former Miss Rhode Island as she tackles hot topics throughout the week. Similar to “The View,” Jordan participates in an ensemble talk show as well. The show, “Cocktails with the Queens,” also includes Vivica A. Fox, Syleena Johnson, and Lisa Raye McCoy. Dr. Sean McMillan even offers spiritual guidance through his nightly show.

After a year of releasing new content, Fox Soul seems to have the recipe for reaching its desired demographic. However, the main ingredient is interconnectivity. Audience participation is key to what the network is hoping to accomplish. Available on iPhone, Android, Apple TV, Twitch, YouTube, and other devices, Fox Soul encourages viewers to interact in a variety of ways. James Lamont DuBose and the on-air celebrities invite views to call the shows directly or record video questions to be submitted via email. The audience can also join in live, through the mainstreaming app or social media.
