Mar 25, 2019 1:00 PM ET

The year 2018 was a good year for Samsung, and the company saw an increase in the sale of its electronic products. The increased prices of semiconductors used in the electronics have made the year 2018 all the more profitable for Samsung. 85% of the revenue generated by Samsung comes from their semiconductor operations and electronics. The increased price of electronics increased the revenue of Samsung. The reported revenue of Samsung in the year 2018 was KRW 243.77 trillion, and the operating income of the company was KRW 58.89 trillion. The revenue that Samsung generated is quite high even when the financial situation of the Global market was grim. This was the second year that Samsung set the financial record.

The innovations that Samsung introduced were also quite distinctive compared to the rest of the market. The demand for memory chip drops throughout the world in the last quarter of years which led to the decreased in the revenue generated in the previous quarter of the year 2018. The competition in display panels has grown a lot which has led to a decrease in the income of Samsung’s display division. It was to be expected because Apple has shifted to using LG’s OLED display instead of using Samsung’s QLED displays. The mobile and communication division has also maintained the profit.

Like every year 2019 will also be quite fruitful for Samsung. The overall business of Samsung will keep on booming as seen in the year 2018 due to the high demand for semiconductors. Many telecom companies are upgrading to the 5G technology, and Samsung is providing the equipment necessary for this upgradation. Cloud computing is getting more common which will increase the demand for storage devices, and Samsung is already supplying such devices to some of the major service providers. In short 2019 seems to be quite a solid year for Samsung.

2019 a bright year for Samsung

Let’s talk about the year 2019 and what it has in store for Samsung’s mobile division. Samsung has introduced Galaxy Fold as their first foldable mobile phone that can serve both as a tablet and mobile phone. The introduction of such a device can change the perception of people regarding mobile phones, making the market all the more competitive. 2019 might be the beginning of these new type of devices and declining year of tablet production. Tablets would eventually be replaced by the foldable phones. We might see the decline of tablet production in the last quarter of the year 2019 as more and more smartphone manufacturers shift their attention towards the folding phones. Apple is already lagging in the race of foldable phone. So Apple might shift to Samsung for the manufacturing of foldable display. Whatever the situation is 2019 will be a bright, economical year for Samsung.
